Admiralty Head Light House
Culture / Museum / Visitor CenterCoupeville, WA
A lighthouse at the convergence point of the Pacific Northwest.
Admiralty head on Whidbey island serves as the entrance point to Admiralty inlet. The site has been a strategic vantage point for navigation and defense for millennia. In the 1890s, the U.S. Navy constructed the current lighthouse after Admiralty Head was identified as a key location for defending Puget Sound. Due to rapid advances in navigation technology, the lighthouse was operational for only 20 years.
The interpretation on the first floor of the keeper’s residence focuses on the themes of geography, lighthouses, navigational history, and the Indigenous people who are native to the area. EDX updated the interior with fresh graphics, interesting interactive and tactile elements, and new furnishings.
